Clay Initial Wall Piece
Grade Level: 2nd Grade
Media: Clay
Students will create a clay plate by rolling their clay into a ball and stepping on it with their shoes to create texture. Then they will learn how to roll a coil and form it into their initial and attach it to their clay plate by slipping and scoring it. They will color their clay plate with oil pastels and the teacher will dip it into Indian ink creating a resist. Lastly, they will learn about patterns and create one using beads after they attach their wire to the clay plate.
Handbuilding
Step 1: Students will create a clay plate by stepping on a ball of clay creating a texture from their shoe. Then they will create their initial out of a coil and connect it to the plate by slipping and scoring
Oil Pastels
Step 2: Students will color their clay plate with oil pastels and then they are dipped in India ink to create a resist
String Beads
Step 3: Students will learn about patterns and create their own patterns using beads so that these can hang on the wall.
